● Short version: We don’t sell your data. Calculator inputs stay in your browser. We only collect what’s necessary to operate the service. You can request deletion of your data at any time.
Who We Are
TRS Calculator (retirement-tax.com) is an independent educational tool providing teacher retirement calculators for all 50 US states. We are not affiliated with any state pension system or government agency.

Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account registration: Email address, name (optional), and password hash. We store your name only if you choose to provide it.
- Newsletter signup: Email address only. Providing this is entirely optional and separate from using the calculator.
- AI advisor queries: Questions you ask the AI retirement advisor are stored to maintain conversation history and to improve the service. You can delete your conversation history at any time from your account page.
- Saved calculations: If you save a calculation, we store the inputs you provided (contribution amounts, years, rate assumptions) alongside your account. This data is yours and can be deleted at any time.
Information collected automatically
- Calculator inputs in URL: When you run a calculation, inputs are reflected in the URL for easy sharing. We do not log these server-side.
- Server logs: Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps). Logs are retained for 30 days for security purposes and then deleted.
- Session tokens: If you create an account, a secure session token is stored in an HttpOnly cookie. This expires after 7 days of inactivity.
What we do NOT collect
- No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and no ad pixels
- No fingerprinting or cross-site tracking
- No financial account numbers or Social Security numbers
- No precise geolocation
We may use privacy-respecting, first-party analytics (e.g. Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization), which can set a first-party analytics cookie used only to measure aggregate page views and improve the service. We do not run advertising pixels, build advertising profiles, or sell analytics data.
Browser Extension
If you use the optional TRS Calculator browser extension, the calculator runs entirely on your device — no inputs, results, or browsing history are sent to our servers.
The only data the extension transmits is what you explicitly submit:
- Email address: only when you opt in to receive a detailed report. Stored in our newsletter list and used to email you a welcome report and occasional retirement planning tips.
- State you selected: the US state slug (e.g.
texas) tied to the email so the welcome message is relevant.
- Source tag:
source=extension so we can measure where signups come from.
The extension stores your last calculator inputs and email-sent flag in your browser's local storage only — never on our servers. You can clear extension data at any time via Chrome's extension settings, and unsubscribe from emails using the link in every message.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating this service.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing purposes. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Cloudflare: Our hosting provider processes traffic through Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare’s privacy policy applies to this processing.
- LemonSqueezy: If you purchase a paid subscription, LemonSqueezy processes your payment as a Merchant of Record. We receive only your email and subscription status — not your payment card details.
- Google: AI advisor queries are processed by Google’s AI services. Queries are not used to train AI models. Google’s privacy policy applies.
- Resend: Transactional emails (account verification, password reset) are sent via Resend. Only your email address is shared for this purpose.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Data Retention
- Active accounts: Data retained while your account is active.
- Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, your email is anonymized and personal data is removed within 24 hours. Aggregated, anonymized usage data may be retained.
- Server logs: 30-day retention, then automatically deleted.
- Newsletter: Retained until you unsubscribe. After unsubscription, email is removed within 7 days.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update inaccurate data via your account settings.
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated data from your account page, or by emailing privacy@retirement-tax.com.
- Portability: Request your saved calculations in a machine-readable format.
- Unsubscribe: Opt out of newsletter emails via the unsubscribe link in any email or from your account page.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@retirement-tax.com with the subject line “Data Request.” We will respond within 30 days.
Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS everywhere, HttpOnly and Secure cookies, salted industry-standard password hashing, and rate limiting on authentication endpoints. However, no system is completely secure — we encourage you to use a strong, unique password.
Children’s Privacy
TRS Calculator is designed for working adult educators and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our service evolves. Significant changes will be noted at the top of this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
